Air exchangers balancing

For maximum efficiency, it is highly recommended that the airflows of the unit be balanced by a heat, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) specialised contractor (C.V.A.C). Some problems may occur if the unit is not balanced (risk of ice build up in the unit and ducts, risk of negative pressure leading to unwanted moisture supply, etc.).

     

Positive air pressure

Pushes hot and/or humid air into walls and insulation; condensation can lead to mold, mildew and rot

 

Heat loss

 

Negative air pressure

Infiltration of unconditioned air increases risks of mold and higher energy costs

 

Potential backdraft from combustion appliances

 

Equal air pressure

Supply airflow is equal (CFM) to stale air exhaust

 

Balancing is required on all units unless specified otherwise
